In the morning Lukas, Morta, and I talked to Mrs. An. She told us stories about her life including how her family was involved in the Vietnam War and persecuted by the Viet Cong. She struggled after the war because all of her things were taken from her and she had to start from scratch. Now she’s successful and she has relatives who live in the USA. She was a nice lady.
Lukas, Morta, and I got onto our bicycles and went to eat Cau Lao and then meet Meital, Carolina, and Jonathan. We met at the bar on the beach where I had played guitar 2 nights before. We recruited one more Austrian girl, Doris, to join us on a bike ride through the rice paddies surrounding Hoi An.
We rode inland from the beach to a vegetable farm. I used my phone to navigate through the small villages and the rice fields. There were 7 people in our group. It was fun and relaxing to be out in the rice fields. I kept heading west and I pretended that I knew where I was going. Eventually we were riding on a narrow dirt dike in between rice paddies. It was definitely “off the beaten path.” We wint through a tunnel under the highway and I used my phone to find our way to a road that would take us back to town. We rode until 3:30pm and then we stopped to eat phở at a small restaurant. After that we rode back into Hoi An. Lukas, Morta, and I parted ways with Meital, Jonathan, and Carolina.
Lukas, Morta and I returned to the B&B, packed everything up and decided to move to Meital’s old hostel because we wanted a better wifi connection. I noticed that I didn’t have my tennis shoes. I told Mrs. An and she gave me some water shoes that another traveller had left. They were too big for me. When I walked, the toe flapped around.
We took a nap and then went out to experience the nightlife. We met some Danish girls and took them on our motorcycles to a party on the beach that Paul invited us to. I had thought that the party was at night but it was actually at 4pm, so it was basically over by the time we got there. Lukas and I played guitar with Morta, Paul, and the girls under a cabana on the beach. We played a game of pool and then laid in the sand and looked at the stars.
We returned to Hoi An and went to a bar near our hostel. We chatted until 1am and then went back to the hostel. We got a sandwich on the way back and then went to sleep in the hostel.
